Dock & Roll Diner is Austin’s first establishment dedicated to the glorious morsel known as the lobster roll. Since 2011 we have continued to bring the people of Austin an entirely new food experience through what is now a familiar icon, the food trailer.
We now have two full time trailer locations, and also a full service food truck ready for office lunches, weddings, and any number of private or public events. Our original 1957 Flying Cloud Airstream trailer is now located downtown on the patio of the new Steampunk Saloon at 701 W. 6th Street (Corner of Rio Grande St and W. 6th St). Our oldest location is at 1905 S. Capital of Tx Hwy in the Midway Food Park, less than a 1/4 mile from Rudy’s on the same side of the highway.
At Dock & Roll we only use wild caught Maine lobster via Ready Seafood of Portland, Maine. Each of our trailers is equipped with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and everything else requisite of the greatest lobster rolls known to man.
Dock & Roll has gone to great lengths to bring our fellow Austinites a unique experience that has previously been reserved for only folks residing in coastal towns. After working for years in kitchens in New York and San Francisco, head chef and general partner, Lee Krassner, became very familiar with the lobster roll.
After learning to construct the dish on the East Coast and successfully recreating and serving this North Eastern delicacy to folks on the West Coast, Chef Lee thought a concept featuring the simplistic beauty and nearly unmatched deliciousness of a good authentic Maine style lobster roll would be appreciated in his hometown of Austin, TX, he decided to take the chance, and Lee fostered the help of longtime friends, also native Austinites, Daniel Dennis and Adam Lewis, whom both agreed with his enthusiasm to bring lobster rolls to Austin in a affordable and easily accessible way.
The Dock & Roll Diner team’s vision is to present not only delicious authentic traditional New England style lobster roll preparations like our signature roll, The Maine Event, featuring our fresh Maine lobster claw, and knuckle meat, secret house dressing, and special house seasoning, but also to add our Chef Lee’s personal spin on the delicious crustacean creation by pairing traditional ingredients from an array of cuisines, which has resulted into a number of never before seen before lobster roll variations, many of whom have become regular staples on our menu.
In addition for those lobster fanatics out there that don’t always hang out with like minded folk, Daniel and Lee constructed a fully rounded out menu to please the most discerning of palates, and feature many other delicious non-lobster menu items too, some other seafood rolls, and some not, all of which go great with our classic diner themed sides.
All of our rolls are baked fresh daily. The lobster roll is served on a gourmet buttery New England split top style roll perfectly suited for the traditional lobster roll.
Our non lobster rolls are served on a sourdough style submarine roll created specifically for our concept by a local bakery here in Austin.
And please “lettuce” make any of our sandwiches gluten free for you by ordering them in a lettuce wrap or salad.
